The Important Journey to Japan

I came to Japan from July 1 to December 31, 2025, for research purposes. My research project was conducted entirely at Shizuoka University in collaboration with Dr. Masakazu Suzuki, with whom we have a research partnership. The research project that brought me to Japan is entitled “Physiological role of the neurohypophyseal hormone/receptor/aquaporin system in water homeostasis of Xenopus tropicalis and Sclerophrys regularis under dehydration.” When I arrived, I was given a very warm welcome at the laboratory, and work began very quickly. I was surprised to see how helpful everyone was, but it wasn’t just the people—the equipment was also readily available.

At first, I found the pace of work a little fast, but I quickly got used to it and felt very comfortable. Overall, the work went well, and we achieved good results. I improved my skills in my research field, but also in research techniques such as PCR, histology in general, and cloning using bacteria such as Escherichia coli. In addition to this, I participated in scientific conferences that were very rich in knowledge sharing. Overall, I have been very pleasantly surprised since coming to Japan (Shizuoka). My surprise went even further with the many trips I took. I was able to visit Sendai, Tokyo, Azumino, and Hiroshima, where I admired the beauty of these cities and Japanese culture (Okonomiyaki). I also visited Joren Falls and Mount Fuji, two wonders of nature. All these images will remain unforgettable memories.

In the coming years, I will be able to write projects in a clearer and more competitive manner. I will be able to conduct similar research, contributing effectively to the training of master’s and doctoral students in Burkina Faso and elsewhere in the world. The impact on teaching will also be very significant. The skills I have acquired will be used to improve the quality of my courses. Another very important aspect is the sharing I will have with my colleagues and students about the Matsumae International Foundation, life in Japan, research, and other topics.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the Matsumae International Foundation for providing the funding that made all of this possible.

Thank you very much.
