The 2025 MIF Tokyo Meeting

On September 29, 2025, the MIF held the 2025 Tokyo Meeting at its office. Thirteen fellows from Asia, Latin America, Africa, and Europe participated, strengthening their connections through presentations on their research and a luncheon.
The meeting began with a greeting from Toshiaki Hashimoto, Chairperson of the MIF. He shared the Foundation’s founder, Dr. Shigeyoshi Matsumae’s, belief: “Science and technology must serve peaceful purposes, and scientists must have a genuine love for humanity.” Hashimoto also expressed his hope that everyone would experience the wonder of living together through “Garden of Peace,” at the MIF, where various plants coexist, including the second-generation Aogiri tree that survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
Next, the fellows shared their research in Japan, the cultures of their countries, and the unique features of their universities. Topics included research on new membrane materials for green hydrogen production, biosensors utilizing functional peptides, earthquake-resistant rammed earth houses, and the development of agricultural ecosystems with reduced waste. Finally, a ceremony was held for Dr. Ivan Kraus of Croatia. Hashimoto presented Dr. Kraus with a certificate of completion and a commemorative medal, and the participants gave him a big round of applause.
The fellows remarked, “It was a great opportunity to learn about research in a wide range of fields and to foster exchanges between researchers. We would like to thank the secretariat staff who planned this event,” and “We have achieved wonderful results in Japan that will lead to future research developments. During our stay, we also deepened our understanding of Japanese culture. We hope to continue this through joint research between Japan and our home country in the future.”
