Welcome Back!
The MIF was delighted to welcome back an MIF alumnus to our office!
Dr. Francisco Pizarro, Associate Professor, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, who carried out his research under the MIF fellowship program in 2022, visited us on June 22, and we would like to share the following message from him.
“During my current visit to Japan, supported by a NICT fellowship in collaboration with the Institute of Science Tokyo, I took the opportunity to visit the place where everything started for me: the Matsumae International Foundation. My first experience in Japan through the MIF fellowship was a turning point, not only in my academic career but also in my personal connection with the country.
Since then, my relationship with Japan has continued to grow. I have maintained an active collaboration with my colleague at the University of Shiga Prefecture, where I have also carried out subsequent research visits after my MIF fellowship. This collaboration remains very strong, and my colleague will visit Chile in September of this year.
Beyond research, Japan has become an important part of my life. Since my first visit, I have continued studying Japanese and learning more every day about Japanese culture. I have also developed long-term friendships, and I always try to meet these friends whenever I return to Japan.
For me, the MIF fellowship was the starting point of a long and meaningful relationship with Japan. My message to former, current, and future MIF fellows is to take full advantage of these opportunities as the beginning of new paths. A fellowship like MIF should not be seen only as a scientific or professional experience, but also as a human one. Working and collaborating with people from different cultures allows us to grow both as researchers and as individuals.”
Thank you very much, Dr. Pizarro, for coming to the MIF. We were glad to hear that your relationship with Japan has been growing. We look forward to your further success and achievements!
