On July 24, H.E. Mr. Seiko ISHIKAWA, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Japan, together with Ms. Karen ROMERO, Minister Counsellor visited MIF and had a very constructive meeting with Prof. Toshiaki HASHIMOTO, MIF’s Chairperson, and Prof. Keiichi KATAYAMA, Executive Director. MIF has ever invited 2 fellows from Venezuela but none since 2015. We discussed how we can increase the number of applicants from the country and both Ambassador ISHIKAWA and Prof. Hashimoto agreed to further strengthen the relationship between the embassy and MIF.

 

A Graduation Ceremony for Dr. Naruemon MONGKONTANAWAT from Thailand, who completed her research studies at Tokai University was held on the 13th of July at MIF’s reception house in Tokyo.  At the ceremony, Prof. HASHIMOTO, MIF’s Chairperson, directly presented the Certificate of Accomplishment and a memorial medal to the graduating Fellow. After the ceremony, Prof. HASHIMOTO hosted a farewell luncheon, and Dr. Naruemon MONGKONTANAWAT promised to enhance the relationships among the Fellows and with MIF.

On the 9th of July, MIF made a presentation on the fellowship program for Latin America and the Caribbean Region (LAC) diplomats in Tokyo. More than 20 diplomats participated in this event and a vibrant discussion was made by them on how to increase applicants from LAC. We have a strong concern that applicants from LAC remain low in the recent years. Many diplomats mentioned that they will try to mitigate this situation in conjunction with the ministries of education in their home countries.

A Graduation Ceremony for Dr. Swarup Kumar CHATTOPADHYAY from India, who completed his research studies at Tokyo Institute of Technology, was held on the 29th of June at MIF’s reception house in Tokyo.  At the ceremony, Prof. HASHIMOTO, MIF’s Chairperson, directly presented the Certificate of Accomplishment and a memorial medal to the graduating Fellow. After the ceremony, Prof. HASHIMOTO hosted a farewell dinner at “Shiosai”, a traditional Japanese restaurant, and Dr. Swarup Kumar CHATTOPADHYAY promised to enhance the relationships among the Fellows and with MIF.

The 1st MIF Study Tour for the Academic Year 2018 was organized between June 10th and 13th, 2018. 13 MIF fellows from Egypt, Myanmar, India, Romania, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Vietnam, Pakistan and Bangladesh visited Kyoto, Nara, Miyajima and Hiroshima. This tour is organized by MIF annually and it gives important opportunities for the fellows to understand the cultures and tradition of Japan and think profoundly about the world peace.
